Champagne Vs. Beer

I’ve been doing a lot of thrifting recently.  Maybe you don’t know this, but I recently traveled my life savings away and moved to a new city without a single piece of furniture.  Basically that means I’ve been forced to replace Target with Craigslist and Goodwill…and you know what?  I might never go back.  My travel buddy and I used to joke about having “champagne taste and a beer wallet” while we were on our adventures, and  I feel like for some reason that statement holds a lot more truth now.  Decorating with a beer wallet certainly requires some creativity and patience, but it’s definitely not as hard as it sounds…

Ok so technically the dresser was a gift so it didn’t come from my beer fund.  It’s from Craigslist though, so that counts.  Isn’t it amazing?

The problem with art is that it’s expensive.  Tasteful pieces are also somewhat hard to come by in thrift stores so I really had to get creative on this one.  Ok, not that creative, but this was pretty DIY for me.  I found this cool wooden frame (no glass) that was basically falling apart at an antique store for $3.  Weeks later I found this poster of an old Life Magazine cover online and unknowingly created a masterpiece.  The 17 inch frame was the exact length of the poster, and most of the image fit inside so I cut about 3 inches from each side of the poster and stapled it to the back of the frame.  I’m pretty proud of this one, folks…it was a true moment of genius for me.

I found these mushrooms at Goodwill for 50 cents each.  I also found them on opposite ends of the store which was a true lesson in bargain shopping.  You must HUNT for the treasures.  I like the canisters too…they’re from the dollar store.

This tray is totally tarnished and could probably use a good polish, but that’s what I love about it.  That, and how cute it looks on top of my dresser…and how I paid less than a dollar for it.
I’m gearing up for my next round of thrift store adventures this weekend.  I’m finally starting to make progress in this place, but I still have a long way to go.  See ya!
